Finishing my second draft of “DESTINY”

This weekend, I finished up the second draft of Destiny and published it on Wattpad along the way. It’s always a good feeling when you can click the button that says completed. It’s like you can finally say goodbye to an old friend but it is bittersweet because over the past few months, I have fallen in love with these people all over again.

The idea behind the book, DESTINY came to me while actually on a road trip from Houston to San Francisco and back. On the things, I saw were these trees out in the middle of the desert that looked like they had caught fire and had melted. Being a writer all my life, sometimes I try to figure out how to describe the things I see. Throughout the drive, especially in Central California, we constantly saw varies different farms and I thought about what it would take to live there and work the area.

Being from the city, I immediately put that city girl and country boy together. It was a match made in heaven for me. My characters were all completely made up, making this the first story that was not fanfiction or based on a person. My male character was a hybrid foreigner and surfer. While I did not have anyone in mind when I created him, I pictured a cross between Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon) and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy). The visual in my head for my female counterpart was Jennifer Stone.

The original was under 50,000 words, it was somewhere around 46,000. By the time I finished my second draft, the finished version ended up at 53,820. I know writers should cut and cut and cut, and I did. But I also added two full chapters, expanded on ideas, and changed a few things that didn’t work.

But now it is done. I am ready to move on to my next project. I can not decide if I should edit an old story, work on a pending story, or start something new.

Short Story: A Strange Request At A Piano Bar

A while back, I purchased a journal style book from Target called, WRITE THE STORY. It features a bunch of writing prompts with a topic and various words that must be used in the story. I decided this was a way to write a few short stories.

My first one is: A Strange Request At A Piano Bar

I had to use the following words: carnival, sprained, mask, oxidation, awkward, apple, juvenile, controversy, twirl, and sassafras.

Here it is…

After stirring for a few minutes, he finally opened his eyes and found himself in a strange room. Fearful, he stayed still for a moment. From the bed, he could see outside the open window to a wooden pole, probably electrical, and a paper advertisement for a local carnival. His eyes made their way around the room. The oxidation from the heat and humidity had caused the paint to peal back from the walls. He picked a chip of paint off the wall next to him and it fell on to the damp sheets.

He took a deep breath before attempting to move. There was a hint of apple in the air, maybe bread baking. It was a familiar and welcoming scent which caused his stomach to growl. With that, he decided to find food.

Stepping down, he felt a stabbing pain in his foot. He didn’t remember spraining his ankle, but it hurt tremendously. Biting back the pain, he got to his feet and hobbled over to the metal table and chair that sat in the corner. Other than the bed, it was the only thing in the room. He grabbed his hoodie and with a zip, he made his way slowly to the door.

Outside the door was a set of wooden stairs, leading down. There were no other doors on this floor other than the one he exited from. The stairs dropped him in the middle of a saloon. The piano in the corner stopped playing as he hit the last step. Heads turned to him. Silence pierced his ears.

A deep shallow caught in his throat as he scanned the room of older men, all dressed in white dress shirts, vests, and top hats. There wasn’t one of them without a handle bar mustache. Compared to them, I was an awkward martian from another planet with my khaki shorts with a t-shirt and hoodie.

Not saying a word, a walked to the bar on the right side of the saloon. They piano began to play again and the men’s attention returned as if he didn’t exist. Between two stools, he reached for a menu hoping there might be something to eat. The only thing on the menu was a variety of drinks, all containing sassafras.

He asked the bartender if he had a coke. Silence fell over the bar again. He was sure he heard a cricket in the distance. The barmaid cleaning the stool next to him replied that this was a respectable piano bar and if he wanted drugs, he would need to go across the way to the brothel. She winked at him.

Glancing around, he knew he should leave. When he stepped out side the swinging half doors of the saloon, a parade of juveniles marched down the dirt road that separated one building from the other. Many of them wore masks and other twirled batons and fire sticks.

Their presence must have sparked controversy in this small community as the town folk booed and hissed at the gaggle of carnies headed down the main drag. He watched them disappear around the corner of the last building and the crowd of upset people dispersed.

On the porch of the building across the way a few scantily clad women loitered in front of another wooden building. One of them whistled toward him. Looking oddly familiar, he crossed the dirt road and stepped upon the porch. The three women descended upon him, tearing at his clothes.

From the double swinging saloon doors appeared a large busty woman who wiggled her finger at him, inviting him into the business. Following the tempting invite, he burst through the swinging doors into the darkness. Once his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he found himself in his living room. He turned around. There were no swing doors behind him; only in front of him was his girlfriend who asked him where he had been.

He answered, “Another world.”

Who was the muse for “A Muse Is Born”?

I am sure that is the question on everyone’s mind, right? Who was the muse that help created A Muse is Born? Let me tell you.

A Muse is Born is about a writer who moves into an apartment complex and meets a not-so-confident actress and the two of them fall in love. It’s a simple story that has been told many times over. First off, no the write is NOT ME. He is an original character that I created to stand next to the young and upcoming actress. My muse is Jennifer Stone.

Jennifer Stone is an actress that I am still 100%, okay maybe like 95% in love with. She played Harper on the Disney Channel television show, Wizards of Waverly Place. There are not many celebrities that I have had a crush on that I still do. Honestly, there is only one. Jennifer Stone.

While there may be other crushes that come and go, Jennifer Stone has been with me for over a decade and she is far from leaving my life. I don’t know what it is about this girl, but I am utterly and passionately hers. Just saying.

This was the first of many stories I have written using Jennifer Stone as my muse. It was written while she was still filming the television show, so you can tell it is that old.

Going through my works and giving them fresh edits for the Wattpad publishing, I remembered back to one of the reviews I received when this was on Amazon. They mentioned how if the story was told in first person, he could not know what she was doing when he wasn’t around. With that in mind, I decided to add an introduction and a different epilogue that would fix that situation. I don’t want to give too much of the story and plot away, especially if you want to read it.

Ultimately, I like how to final edit turned out even though there are still a few things I might fix later on.

2013’s NaNoWriMo – “Dark Waters Ahead”

In 2013, I decided I would take the challenge of NaNoWriMo and write an entire book during the month of November. I did. And I completed it. I present to you, Dark Waters Ahead.

Dark Waters Ahead is my pride and joy and when it was up for sale on Amazon, it never sold a copy. Not even a download. This makes me sad and I believe it is the reason I gave up on selling my work on Amazon.

This story is about a high school boy who meets the girl of his dreams. Just as their relationship begins, they find out that their parents were dating and they were about to become brother and sister, which meant they were off-limits to each other. I mean, we know were wanted Greg and Marcia to hook up, right?

When our main character can’t have the girl that he wants, he turns to taking it where he can get it even if it was by force. The family goes on a cruise and Scott, our protagonist, takes his terror to the high seas.

The inspiration for this story happened by chance during a cruise I was on. Everything about the boat, the excursions, were part of my trip; though I was not a predator on that ship.

My two main characters were completely original and I had no real inspiration for them. A secondary character who Scott ends up molesting was actually inspired by a crew member of the ship. So there was a bit of real person fiction here. I mean, what is one of my stories without having someone real on my mind?

When I finished the story and decided to publish it, I asked my mother to read and edit it. She did. With the amount of graphic sex in this story, I am surprised my mother doesn’t think I am some sort of pervert.

What inspired “Cause and Effect”?

One of my favorite stories I have written is Cause and Effect, though I am not too sure where the inspiration came from for this story. The title of the book came from a song by Paulina Rubio, “Causo y Efecto”.

I wrote this story during my Hannah Montana fanfiction days which was probably about the span of a year, year and a half. During that time, I was writing all the time and posting a chapter almost daily of one story or another. I mostly wrote the fandom using Miley and Lily, but during my darker period with the fandom it went on to be about Miley and her dad. I am not proud of those stories and I actually do not have any of them.

Most of the stories I wrote during this fandom were short stories or ones that I started but never finished. Cause and Effect just happened to be one that I finished and am quite proud of it. It was originally titled, Girl Interruptous. Kind of going into the idea that Lily had just gotten out of rehab because of an accident that almost killed Miley.

It’s a coming-of-age story, as well as a love story. Originally, it was meant to put Miley and Lily together but ultimately a secondary character, Joanie, became such an important role that it changed the entire original plot.

Oddly, that happens so many times. A writer always says that the character write themselves and in this story, she did. During the rewrite and edit, the inspiration for Joanie’s character was actually Ruby Rose, as seen in Orange is The New Black. This rebel comes into the character’s world and flips everything all around. That is what this character did.

The final edit of this story made me fall in love with this character more than Miley or Lily and I believe she truly was the star.

Tapping into the world of Erotica with “TeenDom”

If you read my summary of King of The Kingdom, you will know about the drama with JP and me over my writing world. Remember when I said that there was a second argument for another book. This is the book.

Just before I began writing this story, Sleeping Beauty was released on Blu-Ray. The Blu-Ray featured a music video of Emily Osment singing “Once Upon A Dream” and I became obsessed with the little blondie. Okay, yes she was jail bait but I couldn’t help it. Again, the difference between JP and I is cartoons versus real people.

My obsession with Emily Osment took shape and I began watching Hannah Montana, just because of her. I also began writing this little erotic love story about her. Another fanfiction. The problem arose when my story featured S&M with the male protagonist as a submissive looking for a mistress that he finds in Emily. Why does this become a fight with JP?

JP and I used to have this relationship that was strictly about music but once I got with my girlfriend, she began to open up to me about her personal life, which included kink with her girlfriend. I don’t/didn’t have an issue with it. It just surprised me about her. I am not a prude and even used to babysit for a dominatrix. I knew about kink. I don’t have a problem with it but oddly, she thought I did. I don’t know why.

When I wrote this story, I was told by JP’s girlfriend that I was making fun of JP. So not true. I could have cared less about what JP and her girlfriend did in bed. So this book drove a wedge between the friendship. All because I was writing kinky fanfiction?

Who knows. I finished this book and decided that I should officially escape into the world of real fanfiction and flipped this story upside down. I rewrote this book in the Hannah Montana fandom with Miley being my male but now female protagonist, and Lily as Emily Osment. It worked and it grew. I’ll talk about that book at a later date.

For now, I revived the original TeenDom story, changed out Emily’s real-life world, and set the stage for a sequel to this book. It will be completely different than how the remake went. I have already begun writing the next chapter of this saga. I think it will be a total of 3 books when the series is complete.

Disney Fan Fiction with “King of The Kingdom”

When I think back at the creative process of writing King of The Kingdom, it is bitter-sweet. It came from a friendship that turned into the fight and ultimately, that friendship dissolved into nothing. And to think it was over fanfiction? Or was it?

King of The Kingdom takes an original character and places him in the middle of Walt Disney World and the cast members, who work in the park. But let’s back up before we get into the story.

I didn’t even know what the hell fanfiction was until a friend of mine, who we will call JP, began writing it based on a cartoon on the Disney Channel. She explained how she/fans took the characters and wrote their own stories and created new worlds for them. Okay. I get it. What I did/do with celebrities. What she did was take two cartoon characters and created a romance that did not exist on the show.

I didn’t understand that. Okay. Cartoons and sex never mingled in my world and I couldn’t relate, so I moved on. She thought my passiveness was making fun of her. No. I just didn’t see cartoons like that. No biggy, not my thing. And I really wasn’t a fan of the show. I couldn’t relate.

Then I went to Disney World. And saw a cast member that was so unbelievably cute and adorable, I wanted to hook up with her. So. She played the character that JP wrote about, only in cartoon form. My fascination with her was the cast member, not the character, who just happened to be a live version of a cartoon character.

(((DEEP BREATH))) And so begins my writing of King of The Kingdom. A story about a young man who finds himself living at Disney World and meets Kim Possible, the cast member who thinks she is really Kim Possible. You see. Not the same. She thought it was which in turn caused a little fight between us. Oh, the fight gets bigger, but that is for a different book.

King of The Kingdom was the first completed book written, but it was not the first book I published on Amazon when I was publishing in book form. It’s a lot like Kingdom Keepers, which I have not read.

No Dogs Allowed (Wilbur & The Time Machine #1)

Wilbur Robinson was from the future. He borrowed his dad’s time machine without permission a few times. The times he took it, only good things had come of it. Once Wilbur could prove his trust, Cornelius, Wilbur’s dad, allowed Wilbur to use the time machine on the weekends to have adventures with his friend, Andrew.

They have known each other since Andrew was born. Because Wilbur was from the future, his age really never changed. The two boys were just about the same age now and Wilbur knew the trips would be even more adventurous now that he did not have to gear them towards a kid. Wilbur was an experienced traveler and felt that he was able to take on more grown-up adventures.

As Wilbur pulled up to the Disney house in California, he blew the horn. BEEP-BEEP. It had been a while since Wilbur had seen Andrew and he was looking forward to having some fun. Daniel, Andrew’s dad, came out and invited Wilbur in. Andrew was getting dressed and would be a moment.

“It’s nice to see you again, Wilbur” Daniel said.

“Well, Mr D. I am glad to be back. After being ground for about a year, it is nice to get out a fly around again.” he responded.

“What got you grounded for a whole year?” Daniel asked, being nosy.

“A little of this and a little of that. But nothing I haven’t learned my lesson on. No need to worry Mr D.” Wilbur assured.

Andrew came running down the stairs, as if he was in a hurry to get on with his day with Wilbur. Wilbur hardly recognized Andrew, he had a growth spurt during the past year. The two ran out the door, jumped into the time machine, and waved good-bye to Andrew’s dad.

“Wow, you’ve grown” Wilbur said.

“I guess. So, where we going this time? I have missed this.” Andrew’s excitement was hard to contain.

“Okay, Okay little one. Where do you wanna go? We can go anywhere you want.” Wilbur replied.

“Uhm. Do you have a random button? We could be spontaneous.”

“Yep. Ok, lets do it.” Wilbur pushed the random button that his dad had just added to the machine, “Hold on, here we go.”

The boys took off in the time machine to somewhere they would have to wait to see. Wilbur stuck in on autopilot and they enjoyed the scenery while they headed to somewhere.

As the time machine descended back to earth, the read out of the dash read 1910. Wilbur was worried they may have gone back a little too far. Andrew noticed Wilbur worried, but did not see the dash board. “What’s up?”

“Well, we went back in time.” Wilbur said with an optimistic tone, “and we are still in the US.”

“So, what’s wrong then?” Andrew asked.

“We went back further than I thought we could. I think we went back to like 1910.” Wilbur moved away from the dash to let Andrew see.

“Oh, crap.” Wilbur turned to look at Andrew, shocked that Andrew had begun to use more forceful words.

“You’ve grown-up a lot since I have been away.” Wilbur noticed.

“Yeah, I have. I’m not the naive kid I was last year. I’ve changed.” he said to Wilbur.

The time machine started to heat up and smoke began to bellow from under the hood. “This is not good.” Wilbur yelled out as the time machine took a nose dive. The boys braced themselves for a crash landing. BAM! The machine hit the grassy area in front of a house. It slid through the grass and stopped abruptly as it hit the pavement of the driveway. The boys did not have seatbeats on. Wilbur’s body was smashed up against the front widow and Andrew was pinned on to his back. Wilbur looked back at Andrew, “You okay?”

His friend pushed himself away, “Yeah. Good thing for unbreakable glass.”

“Totally agree,” Wilbur pushed the eject button and the top came off the machine. The boys got out of vehicle to get their barrings.

As they stood up and stretched out the kinks, they heard barking getting louder and louder. “Oh crap,” Andrew said as he noticed a sign in the yard that said Beware Of Dog. “I think we better hightail it out of here.” Wilbur and Andrew see three or four dogs headed straight for them. They take off and jump over the fence surrounding the house. Just as Wilbur was about to make it over, a mutt looking dog took a bite towards him, missed skin but got his pants and ripped a whole in them.

Andrew, worried about his friend, checked out the damages and tried to make sure Wilbur was not injured. As Andrew put his hand on Wilbur’s behind to see if he was ok, Wilbur jumped away. “I’m okay. Swear”

“Okay,” Andrew shrugged off Wilbur’s uneasiness of his care. The boys stood on the safe side of the fence and watched the male dog and his litter of pups growl and bark. Within a few minutes, another dog came prancing from behind the house. Wilbur noticed the cocker spaniel trotting over to the pack of dogs by the fence. He realized that the dogs were Lady and The Tramp and their puppies. He had remembered the dogs as friendly, so Wilbur thought he could become friends with them and all would be well. “I don’t think you should do that, Wilbur.” Andrew pointed out as Wilbur was about to open the gate to the yard.

“Nonsense,” Wilbur replied. He opened the gate and one of the young pups ran out. Once Tramp realized his son, Scamp, had ran out the gate, he chased after him.

Lady yelled after him, “Don’t like that little devil get away.”

Andrew was amazed to hear Lady speak in word’s that he could understand. “How did she do that?”

Wilbur reminded him, “We are in Walt Disney’s world, anything is possible.” Wilbur had been standing there with the gate opened, not realizing that the other puppies had gotten out too.

“Help me gather up with little rascals, please.” Lady asked the boys.

The puppies turned the corner at the end of the street, as Wilbur and Lewis tailed them. Just as they had turned the corner, they saw one of the pups had been caught by a scottie. “Thanks Jock, for catching her.” Lady said to her old friend. Jock carried the pup in his mouth back to the yard and locked her in.

Wilbur went in the direction of one of the puppies, while Andrew ran towards the other. Lady and Jock went to their friend, Trusty’s house to see if one of the puppies went in that direction.

“Trusty, have you seen any of the girls? They seemed to have gotten out.” Lady said to the bloodhound.

“Nope, but I wouldn’t mind helping you hunt them down.”

Jock rolled his eyes, as he knew that Trusty couldn’t track down a skunk that left a trail of crumbs, but they did not want to hurt his feelings. The dogs went in the direction of Wilbur, who had followed his nose to the scent of spaghetti. The dogs found Wilbur staring into Tony’s Italian restaurant from the window. “Is one of them inside?” Lady said to Wilbur thinking that one of the girls had ran inside.

“Nope, but that sure looks good.” Wilbur replied.

Jock bit Wilbur’s pant leg and yanked on it to get Wilbur to focus on finding the girls. As they searched down the streets, Jock overheard some noises coming from down one of the alleys. They headed towards the alley, to find two mean looking dogs pushing one of Lady’s girls into a corner, ready to attack. Wilbur yells out, “Hey!”

The dogs turn to look at where the voice came from. One of the dogs slowly turned towards them and began to stalk them as if they were pray themselves. The other dog guarded Lady’s little princess from running away. She tried to when she saw her mommy, but the vicious villain grabbed her with his teeth. She hung in his jaws of death. Lady yelped in fear, thinking that her pup was going to eaten.

Jock, Trusty and Lady felt helpless. If they ran, they knew that the evil that was headed towards them would chase them and they could all be dinner. They hid behind Wilbur, who was trying to be courageous. He found a large wooden piece of fence on the ground and picked it up, He was ready to use it as a bat as the very hungry German shepherd closed in on them. The dogs mouth opened ready to attack Wilbur, drool was foaming as it’s snarled at them. Holding off as long as he could, Wilbur lunged towards the dog with the piece wood and swung it as hard as he could at the shepherd. The dog squeeled in pain as it hit the wall. It got up to attack again, but Wilbur knocked it down again with a swift swing of the wood. The attacker yelped in pain and ran off.

The other dog dropped Lady’s baby and took a shot at taking down Wilbur and his dog friends. Wilbur lifted up the wood, ready to defend himself. That scared the dog and it took off in the same direction as his hurt friend. Wilbur felt relieved that he did not have to hurt another dog. Lady’s pup ran to her mommy. Lady checked her out to see if she was injured.

After dropping off the little girl, the dogs and Wilbur took off to hunt down Andrew, Tramp and the other two puppies that disappeared. They headed towards the zoo. They were stopped by the zoo guard as they tried to enter, “No Dogs Allowed”, the zoo policeman said.

“We are looking for my friend and a dog that might have come this way,” Wilbur said to the policeman.

“They would not have gotten in here, because no dogs are allowed in the zoo.”

“I get that. But I think the dog wandered inside.” Wilbur continued.

“Nope. I would know if a dog got inside. And they wouldn’t.” the policeman confirmed.

“Come on Wilbur, I have another idea.” Jock said pulling on Wilbur’s pant leg again.

As they turned and rounded the corner, Trusty started laughing. They looked down the street and saw Andrew chasing one of the other puppies in a circle, as if they were both chasing each others tail. They all started to laugh. Lady called out, “Come here baby.”

The little pup stopped and ran to her mommy. Andrew stopped to regain his balance, “Thanks. I was getting dizzy.”

“No prob” Wilbur said as he patted his friend on the back. They sat on the sidewalk ledge to catch their breaths and to discuss finding Tramp and Scamp. “Do you know where Scamp would have ran to?” Wilbur asked Lady and her friends.

“Most likely he went to his friends house. Tramp is probably with him by now.” Lady said.

The group headed towards a not so savory neighborhood, Wilbur and Andrew seemed to get a little afraid thinking they may be in even more danger because of the area. “Are you sure this is the way?” Andrew said.

“Yes, just up the road is Pedro’s house.” Lady said to the boys who were lagging behind from their fear. The group arrived at a run down house, that looked like it had not had any care for a while. Wilbur hopped the fence to take a closer look before letting the dogs get close to the house that looked like it would fall if you sneezed. In the window, Wilbur saw 8 dogs sitting at a table in the middle of the room. One of which was Tramp and another was Scamp. Wilbur waved them in after seeing Tramp inside. Lady jumped up trying to look in to the window to see what was going on.

Wilbur picked her up so she could look in. Outraged, Lady leaped from Wilbur’s arms and barged into the house, “Tramp, how many times have I told you that I don’t want Scamp gambling.”

Tramp’s tail dropped between his legs, “Uhm, once or twice?” he questioned.

“No, like 30 or more.” she replied.

“Oye Senora. Ju need to let the dogs play. They do good and make lots of dinero” said the chihuahua wearing a visor and smoking a cigar. All the dogs, except Scamp, had cigars. Lady looked around at all the of Tramp’s friends, who were begging her to let them stay and play. Toughy, Bull, Boris, Bull, and Dachsie were there at Pedro’s house and were not causing much trouble.

“It’s just us boys playing cards.” Bull said in his deep voice.

Just as Lady was about to let Tramp stay, out came Peg from the other room. “Ok boys, who wants some of this?” Peg walked in the room, shaking her bushy tail at the other dogs. Wilbur saw the hatred in Lady’s eyes as Pegy walked in the room.

Pedro showed his excitement as Peg walked past him, “Ay Ay Ay Mamacita. Come to Papi” The other dogs start to whistle at her, which made Lady very upset and jealous.

“Tramp, now!” she said raising her voice.

Tramp and Scamp excuse themselves from the poker game. Peg sat in Scamp’s place after Tramp left with Lady and the gang.

After Wilbur and Andrew rounded up Tramp and Scamp, they all headed back to the Dear house to get all dogs back into the yard. Wilbur would have to get the time machine working before they could head home. Wilbur did not want to bring Andrew back too late.

Back at the house, Jim Dear was on the porch of the house as they walked up. He sees two strange kids walking up with his dogs. He also sees the mess of his yard that Wilbur’s time machine created. “Excuse me, can you explain all of this?” he asked to the boys.

“Well sir, my time machine crashed in your yard…” Wilbur began before he was interrupted by Andrew.

“My friend was saying… our toy here got out of control and we accidentally let the dogs loose while trying to get it.”

“Well, get it out of here before I call your parents.” Jim Dear replied as he checked to see if all the dogs were accounted for. After making sure the dogs were alright, Jim Dear went inside to let the boys remove their toy from his yard.

Wilbur tried to start the machine, but would not turn over. Tramp ran to the garage and came back with Jim Dear’s tool belt. “Thanks Tramp”, Wilbur patted Tramp on the head. After a few clicks and clanks under the hood, Wilbur yelled towards Andrew, who was in the time machine, “Starter up!”

The time machine started right up. Wilbur dusted himself off and applauded himself for fixing the machine. “I see you’ve become a mechanic.” Andrew observed.

“A scientist, just like my dad.” Wilbur corrected.

“You fixed a vehicle. That’s a mechanic if I ever saw one.” Andrew laughed.

“What ever. You just want me to be a mechanic deep down inside.” Wilbur joked.

Andrew smiled behind Wilbur’s back, as Wilbur jumped in and set the course for Andrew’s present time.

The boys said good-bye to their new furry friends as Lady thanked them for helping find her kids. The all waved at each other as the time machine headed towards home and the end of their adventure.

On Writing “Deep End of The Pool”

Life is funny when you think about where something comes fun. What your imagination thinks about and how you come up with ideas. When I started writing Deep End of The Pool, it was years ago. Probably one of the first books I ever attempted to write. Oh year, there have been plenty of other stories in my life, but Deep End of The Pool was special.

The original working title for this book was called, Jaws The Inflatable. How this came about was in 1987 when the movie Jaws The Revenge was released. I was addicted to that movie and collected everything I could find, which included a promotion blow-up shark, which I hung from my ceiling. You could call it my first attempt at fan fiction when I wrote the start of a book about a little fat girl (myself) and an inflatable shark floatie that sat at the bottom of the pool. The floatie would come up and kill everyone except the little fat girl. It was a love story.

The story never panned out and it was put into the back of my head until my wife (girlfriend at the time) told me I needed to finish that story. Okay, well… I thought it was quite a dumb idea but the idea of a possessed pool sounded fun. I started with no outline, just a few chapters and I fell out of love with the story.

It wasn’t until recently that I came back to the story and chucked the entire idea, starting off from the beginning. The premise is still the same, a possessed swimming pool but nothing remained the same except for two characters: Jessica and Alex. They were supposed to be the main characters but instead I introduced you to a new main character, which pays homage to The Brodys in the Jaws franchise.

Sean Brody, is a newbie cop in East Texas in the 80s. Oddly, and only by accident did Sean Brody, who is an FBI agent in current day, appear in another one of my books. With an 80s Officer Brody and and 20s Agent Brody, I wonder if by chance Sean will appear other places creating at Brodyverse? Anything is possible.

Patricia Manterola in Dallas – ARCHIVE FROM 2002

Going through my archives from previous websites and fan clubs, I located an article that I wrote about my experience with Patricia Manterola, when she visited Dallas, TX on a promotional tour for the release of Que El Ritmo No Pare. I no longer have the photos from that weekend, which is a shame.

My friend, Janie and I left early Sunday morning for Dallas, which was four hours from Houston. We arrived in Dallas around 12:30 pm. Unfortunately, we couldn’t meet Patty until Monday at 3pm. Since we had time to kill, we drove around to locate her hotel and search for a less expensive one close by.

We found a hotel that was less than 5 minutes from where Patty was going to stay then we drove around looking for music stores and other interesting places. When Monday arrived, we got to the hotel a little before 3pm for her interviews. We met Alex, the label manager for BMG, and Walter, the mid-region direct for BMG.

Alex called Patty, who was up in her room, and let her know that we arrived. She came downstairs to the press hall and we were able to sit with her before the interviews started. This gave me time to catch up with Patty, since it had been almost 10 years since we had seen each other. She told us about her new album and her plans for the promotional tours.

Out of respect for the interviewers, we did not take photos during the interviews. We took photos before and after. It was quite funny because during the interviews, Patty introduced me to everyone and told them about our history and many times she stated that I knew more about her than she did and that they should be interviewing me, instead. She also told them about my website.

The interviews finished around 6pm. Alex and Walter decided they were going to go out and wonder if Patty wanted to go with them. That was when Patty asked us if we wanted to go to dinner with her. Of course we said yes. We left Alex and Walter and went off on our own.

We drove to the mall and sat in the parking lot, inside my car for about an hour before going inside. She wanted to play the album for us. It still had not been released but she had a promotional copy with her. We listened to the entire album in the mall parking lot.

I have to say, the album is amazing. Because it has the five different producers, there are so many different musical styles. Their are upbeat dance tracks and the ballads are great for singing in the car. We know this because Patty gave us our own little private concert from the front seat of my car.

After the album listening party, we went inside the mall through Macy’s. Patty found a belt that had the words, DIVA, spelled out in rhinestones. Of course she bought it. When she had her wallet out, I took asked to see her driver’s license. Hell, why not. Her photo was so cute and she is an organ donor. Good to know.

The Mall had an ice skating rink in it and Patty decided she wanted to go skating even though she had never done it. Janie declined. So did I. Patty couldn’t go because they had a class at that moment, so we went to eat instead.

During dinner, Patty spoke to us about her appearance on the television show, Arli$$ where she played a lesbian, amongst her other various films and experiences on the set. After dinner, she wanted to show us the video for her first single, “Que El Ritmo No Pare,” which she had on VHS. We had to find a VCR to watch it and the hotel did not have one.

Where to find a VCR? Let’s try an electronics store. We drove to Best Buy, which was about to close. We located a display unit and Patty shoved in her VHS tape. We had the world premier of the video to Que El Ritmo No Pare at Best Buy in Dallas. She insisted it was the world premier since it wasn’t going to air for at least a few more weeks.

A couple of employees hung out with us while watching the video. We headed back to the hotel after the store closed. We headed up to her hotel room and got on the internet so she could say hello to her fans. It took a while because she could not remember her password, which is saved on her laptop at home. We finally log on under my name and get to say hello to the fans on the chatroom on my website.

The next morning, Patty had radio interviews. We met early at the hotel and caravaned behind Alex and Walter to the radio station. We were lucky enough to be able to be in the studio with her during the interview. Afterward, we said goodbye. Patty was heading to the airport and we had a four hour drive home.
